Instead of using categories there should be tags associated with the item!

If you can have several tags to each item you could create all kind of great menus :D

tags/categories what's in a name.

For the items the categories ( properties) are organised. like Select1 -> Gender, Select2 -> type, Select3 -> color. This makes is possible to select items with specific properties. This kind of organisation would not be possible using non-organised tags ( like wordpress) or hierarchical categories like joomla now has or wordpress.

In joomla categories tree would look like:

Women -> Bikini-> blue
Women -> Switsuit-> blue

These blue's are not the same, you would never be able to select the blue-women's stuff. You could with tags, however tags would never now that 'blue' and 'red' are of the same type and could be organised together.

What can't be done in the component is to have several properties of the same type like Select3 -> color = red or blue it will be 'red,blue' You will always need two items for that. ( for specific situations like the colors custom solutions might be possible).

Tag like clouds can be achieved, for example by feeding tags into the search/query like on www.fashionsales.nl

Replied by mackelito on topic Re: tags/categories
If we where to have a database table for tags we could take the string and break it down so that each word is a tag.

I think that this would make the joomla menu creation easier to understand for the end user.

I´ll make a quick mookup so you´ll see what I meen :)

Edit: we would need one table for all the tags and then another table to map the itemID with tagID
